The Placentia Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that the Department of Jobs, Immigration and Growth, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, has approved funding through the Job Creation Program to hire two (2) Event Support Workers for a 10-month term, starting immediately.
The successful candidates will receive a salary of $685.00 per week and gain valuable hands-on experience while supporting community events and economic development initiatives in the Placentia region.
About the Position
The Event Support Workers will assist with the planning, coordination, promotion, and delivery of two major community initiatives:
- Placentia Bay Industrial Showcase (PBIS)
- Age-Friendly Bridging Generations Health and Wellness Community Events
Throughout the program, participants will gain practical experience in:
- Event planning and coordination
- Communications and marketing
- Research and administration
- Community engagement and networking
- Computer and office applications
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidates will:
- Assist with organizing and promoting community events.
- Work with local businesses, organizations, youth groups, and seniors’ groups.
- Support volunteer committees and event teams.
- Assist with communications, data entry, and social media promotion.
- Support research and community outreach activities.
- Perform administrative and office support duties.
- Develop teamwork, leadership, and event management skills.
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator.
Qualifications
Applicants should:
- Be organized, dependable, and eager to learn.
- Be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Have strong communication and computer skills.
- Be comfortable working with the public and community groups.
- Be flexible and able to meet deadlines.
Eligibility Requirements
This position is funded through the Job Creation Program. Applicants must be Employment Insurance (EI) eligible.
An applicant is considered EI eligible if they are an unemployed person who:
- Has an active Employment Insurance (EI) claim; or
- Had an EI benefit period that ended within the previous 60 months (5 years); or
- Paid EI premiums in at least five (5) of the last ten (10) calendar years (conditions may apply).
About the Program
This project will help strengthen community engagement while supporting the planning and delivery of community events that promote the economic, cultural, and historical importance of the Placentia and Avalon region.
